Selfie Democracy

The Deutsche Historische Museum (German Historical Museum, Berlin) hosted the exhibition ‘Weimar: The Essence and Value of Democracy from April till September 2019.

These days, progressive thinking and democracy can no longer be taken for granted.

The photo shows the building’s spiral stairway with casual tourists using the scene for a multitude of selfies. They seem to mark the place with a sense of instant bliss and forgotten political memory.

Watched back from a poster by SPD politician Marie Juchac, the first woman delegate to speak in a German Parliament (1919), this intimate and elegant building by the Chinese American architect I.M. Pei (passed in 2019) shines in its steel and glass reverence for light and geometry.
